Ransomware App Found in Google Play Store
Check Point researchers recently found mobile ransomware embedded in an app called EnergyRescue, which was available from the official Google Play store.
PC malware first introduced this technique which is becoming a trend in mobile malware having been adopted by several malware families including Dendroid.
“Users can still trust the Google Play Store, but need to keep in mind a few tips to stay safe,” he said.
For IoT apps, the situation is even worse — respondents said IoT apps are harder to secure (84 percent) than mobile apps (69 percent), and 55 percent of respondents said there’s a lack of quality assurance and testing procedures for IoT apps.
The researchers disclosed their findings to the Android Security Team, which removed the infected app and updated its defenses to detect the Charger malware.
Ways Google Play Is Better Than Apple App Store
This time however, Android Authority focuses on the ways Google Play is better than the Apple App Store.
Google Play Store Is More Developer FriendlyFor developers, they are unlikely to spend hundreds of hours creating apps only to be rejected by Google Play.
